Nurit Bird-David

Nurit Bird-David is Professor in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Haifa in Israel, and past president of the Israeli Anthropological Association. Her PhD in Social Anthropology is from Cambridge University. She was a graduate of Trinity College, and research fellow in New Hall. Her major specialization is in hunter-gatherer studies, doing fieldwork with a forager group in South India known as Nayaka. She published many articles, several in Current Anthropology, and recently a book published by California University Press. Her subjects of interest range from economy through family and childhood to environmental perceptions and animism, and recently community imaginaries. In recent years she carried out research projects on constructing homes and identities, and on home and security, in neoliberal consumer Israeli society. .
