Radical Anthropology Seminars return on Tues Sept 24, 6:30pm in the Daryll Forde Seminar Room at UCL Anthropology Dept, 14 Taviton St, London WC1H 0BW.
Chris Knight, founder of Radical Anthropology Group and author of Blood Relations, discusses myths of matriarchy, which are found all over the world. Is there any truth in the idea that women once exercised political power over men? Many feminists have dismissed such stories as ideological narratives invented simply to justify men’s rule. Does biology prevent women from exercising real political power? Does sexism prevail everywhere? Has patriarchy always existed? There will be discussion of the ethnographic, archaeological and genetic evidence for and against these ideas.
Chris will speak LIVE in the DFSR, 2nd Floor of the UCL Anthro dept. Please arrive by 6:15 for 6:30pm start before the doors close! You can also join us on ZOOM ID 384 186 2174 passcode Wawialk
